Im new i hope im in the right place

I am wanting to become a full time childminder and really dont know were to start, i have a careers advice meeting but that is 6 weeks away and i am eager and dont want to wait that long.
I was wondering if you could tell me were i start out?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

The first thing you need to do is contact your local authority for a childminding briefing meeting. You should be able to find information about this on *************.gov.uk or NCMA http://www.*************/ or you local authority website.

At your briefing you'll get your application pack and they will go through the role of a childminder in detail with you. If you decide you want to go for it you'll need to book on a 6 week Introduction to childminding course (ICP) and when you're a few weeks into it fill in your application to send to Ofsted. Ofsted will then arrange to come to your house for your pre-registration visit.

There are some differences between boroughs so I haven't gone in to more detail incase it doesn't work that way where you live but as far as I know the details I've given you are the same for all of England. If you're not in England someone else will have to help you as my advice wont be right!

You could also visit your local Childrens Centre (if you have one) and maybe meet some of your local childminders and have a chat.

Yeh same advice as everyone else has given you. Go to local authority childminding briefing session. You'll get all the info you need there.
Phone as soon as possible as from my experience breifing sessions are only help monthly. The soon you can start the process the better as it is quite lengthy!

Am loving this site so much advice have made loads of notes from your posts and not even had my briefing session yet, mine is also on 1st april came as a shock it was so quick only rang end of last week. I would recommend visiting local childrens centre also my friend is going to take me to local playgroup on thursday where alot of childminders are so i can get some information from them as they are local.

Well done for making the first step and welcome!

I attended my briefing in August last year and became fully registered last month. It can be quicker so don't be put off by that... it has gone so quick I can't quite believe it!!!

well i had my meeting tonight and loved it even husband managed to stay in for meeting that was supposed to be full?? why do people do that say they want to go then never turn up. fill in all forms and managed to ask few questions, cant wait for training workshop, they have them in couple weeks so going to ring up 1st thing and try and get on them and also found out they have a support network of childminders so hope to get some experience before i started. Thanks again love this forum and even mentioned it in our meeting before it started.
