Default what would you charge ?

    Ive had an enquiry

    my hourly rate is £3.50

this mum may want me to have her 5 month old 2 days a week from 11 til 5

its only 12 hours so £42 per week

I have another mum with a similar scenario

at the moment i only have one 1 yr old 5 afternoons a week so im pretty desperate for work

I am reluctant to take on part time and holding out for full time but maye my thinking is all wrong

anyway , do you charge hourly or would 6 hours constitute a full day fee of £30?

I dont know about your area, but round here it mainly seems to be part timers. I dont mind taking them on, cos sometimes you can work it so you can have pockets of free time to do other things. At the moment I have managed to keep Tuesdays sacred

I charge hourly and one of my mindies only does one day of 4.5 hours, just realised how little it now is though and how much I have to do for him re LJ's etc

I have only ever had one full-time mindee (my first). Everything has been part-time ever since . They tend to fit around each other quite well and I am as busy as I want to be.

I only charge a single hourly rate and that is standard however many hours they do (same for full & part-time). I am easily confused and decided that this was simplest for me. However it is your business and many childminders charge session rates or daily rates only. It would depend on the work in your area and how many other childminders have vacanices as if she thought it was too expensive she would just go elsewhere.

You could hold on forever for a full-timer but you could fill all your spaces everyday with part-timers IYSWIM

My hourly rate for part time is more than it is for full time.

I would either consider doing a sessional rate and because it spans two sessions perhaps you could say you could show how generous you are a knock a bit of say 10hr day @£3.50 is £35....
a sessional rate is £16 and because this goes over two sessions you are going to be generous and only charge £28 per day
(this is only a 'for instance')

you are going to be hardpushed to find someone who only wants those hours before 11am.

    thankyou ,
    ...whats ljs?

im starting to think lots of part timers might suit me actually

my neighbour is a childminder and she had one full time and one part time
it suited her and she didnt want lots
she lost the part timer last month and has just found out the full timer is leaving too...panic

perhaps lots of part time mindees is a good idea , if one leaves its not such a problem

and i suppose if a parent says they want monday and tuesday and you can only do monday and wednesday their bosses are more flexible because they are part time ???

    just thinking out loud really

I would only charge for the hours they need if it was me. You never know they may go up at some point! All four of my full time mindees started with little dribs and drabs of hours. (Two old ones, two new ones)

    thanks all
im tempted just to charge for the hours really , they can easily go elsewhere and then youve lost that money

when i think about it , most parents work part time these days , so that s probably where most of my work is going to come from

i should know what l j stands for ....getting there

I charge for a minimum of eight hours however many they use under that. With only three spaces for little ones I can't afford to do part days

    lovely lisa

it very much depends where you live
look at what the childminders in your area are charging and decide from that
where i live it varies but i charge £3.50 its the average in my area
