Default YOUR SENSORY/ MESSY PLAY IDEAS PLEASE

The children had a great time yesterday

We put 8 small cups of flour into a container

    I cup of baby oil

Then I let them mix it up till it looked like bread crumbs

    They had great fun

Its got a texture a bit like sand, you can mould it , they made pretend cakes , squashed it ,poured it into containers

It kept them happy for ages

Do you have any messy play ideas that you have done or are thinking of doing ?

Thanks Angel Delight and Christine E I have just added them to my planning ideas folder.

My little ones love Gelli Baff which at one point was getting sold in tesco's for 50p a packet and i bought about 6 packs, but it ran out last week.

However i got the Early Years Resources catalougue yesterday and it has a massive tub for 19.95 which it says will last for 60 uses so i will defiantly be buying some more

Dried beans and corn - they love swooshing it around and making a BIG noise!
    Coloured rice
Coloured pasta - raw and cooked (not at the same time!)
    Water
Coloured water with lots of funnels, containers, bottles etc - we made potions for hours with this, then added a squirt of washing up liquid and a whisk and made bubbles
    Gloop
    Jelly
    Sand
    Soil
    Clay
    Pine cones
    Conkers and acorns
    Water beads
    Instant snow
Pumpkins and the seeds from inside them

that's all I can remember from the top of my head!

Balloon painting - blow up balloons - not too hard (experiment with different amounts of air inside) then put paint onto saucers/plates, dip the balloons in and use to paint with.

Splatter painting - make sure everything and everyone you don't want paint on is well covered. Use thinned down paint and various brushes (toothbrushes work well), dip brushes in paint and flick or splatter them at paper. Great for firework pictures or holi.

    Keep smiling!

I LOVElightboxes and once I'm registered this will be on top of my list unless I can get my husband to make one fir me
Jelly and glitter filled letters and numbers, crystals and gems, laminated leaves and petals, shapes, sand, even projector images and x rays!

I am Just making a listen / hearing game of pairs. I'm using empty film roll containers but yoghurt drink pots or something similar would work too.
I fill two of each with the same thing. (marbles, coins, sand, rice, water, etc) then put the lid on and cover them with paper mâché so they look nice. Then set them out on the table or a square cloth and just as with pairs you take turns to pik one up an shake it.

So many great ideas. Do you use tuff trays, bowls, cat litter trays or something else?

I have a tuff spot but also have quite a few large plastic trays that work better inside

Fill balloons with water and freeze them (takes overnight)

Remove the balloon, sprinkle with salt and allow kids to drip food colouring on them, as the ice melts the colours run through it

    Brandonballoon.jpg

Mine also love having glitter in their cornflour

If you freeze liquid paint in icecube trays it is like a crayon for a few minutes and then gradually melts in their hands

Using different things instead of paintbrushes, our current favourite is lego bricks, learning about squares and oblongs
