Default Home Made Edible Finger Paint

We made some home made finger paint and had great fun - it is suitable for any age! It's totally edible (though not that tasty I would not imagine ha ) and completely non-toxic, and the best part is that it is so easy to make

    You will need
    2 cups of corn flour
    1 cup of cold water
    4.5 cups of boiling water
    Liquid food colouring

Mix the cornflour with the cold water and stir together. Pour in the boiling water and stir between each cup.( Obviously this is something that you will have to do ) It goes really strange (you are basically mixing a hot goop mixture ) but keep stirring and it literally seems to "melt" into a wonderful, custard-like consistency.
We then put a small amount into yogurt pots and added different colour to each one

It was a bit like painting with coloured, waxy custard! Very strange yet extremely pleasing to touch!
It is really easy to make and safe
The colours are light but you can add more colour if you wish
    The little ones loved it
It can take a little longer to dry though

Great for involving children of all ages
    Creative and expressive
Mark Making - using the fingers and tools
    Exploring new textures
Knowledge and Understanding - following a recipe , mixing and stirring, combining materials and mixing colours

    Have fun

    Angel xx

I have done this a lot with my yonger mindees, I have experimented over time and had some great results.

Now the summer is coming, if you have young ones I would suggest getting a tough-spot tray, making a couple of big tubs of paint, getting baby into just a nappy and sunhat & sitting the baby in the tough-spot with paint, some paper and a brush. I have some EXCELLENT pictures of my mindees (one at about 8months, others up to 1.5yrs), they love it, great sensory experience for them.

I've not done that before either but a fab idea especially with my 7 month old, think we'll be trying it very soon

Wow fantastic! I'm creating an 'inspirations' page on my blog for ideas like this that I come across, things I want to remember for when I am registered, would you mind if I used this there? Full credit of course!
