What do you want to

Activities for EYFS Areas of Learning

A fun activity for Mother's Day

You will need:

  • A cardboard tube
  • Card folded to make a card shape but the same height or taller than the tube
  • Fresh flowers i.e. daffodils
  • Cotton Wool
  • Cling Film

Fold the card in half and draw a vase shape on the front. Then let the children decorate them how they wish, you could use collage materials, crayons, paint, glitter etc.

Cut slits in the bottom of the tube about half an inch long and fold the flaps in (this is to stop the flower falling out of the bottom)

Now fix the tube to the back of the card with staples, in the centre and level at the base so the card still stands up.

Cut the flower stem to a suitable length to fit the tube and still show above the card.

Wrap the stem of the flower in damp cotton wool and finished with cling film.

Place the flower in the tube so that when viewed from the front it looks like the flower is in the vase drawn on the front of the card.

If you don't want to use fresh flowers you could have a second activity and make paper or card flowers for the card, fitting it in the same way but without the cotton wool and cling film.
