Colour Walk You will need: Sample colour: i.e. blue t-shirt, green shirt or colour cut from magazine Plan with your child to find colours which match their sample To begin the walk, first choose a colour sample that can be taken out with you. For little ones it might be their blue T-shirt or the green sock that they are wearing at the time. You could select a colour cut from an old magazine or catalogue - adverts are a very good source. You can prepare the child before you go. Tell them that the idea is to discover colours on their walk that match the colour they have chosen (make sure their choice is not too obscure!). Talk about what you discover. You may be able to take a sample of the find home with you - but do not encourage the child to pick from growing plants and do not let them pick up litter. With older children this activity can be extended on your return. They can draw pictures of what matched, what did not match and what was very close. Perhaps they could stick their coloured finds onto a page as a record and reminder. Obviously this walk can be repeated using different colours and going on different walks. Alternatives - You could also use a paint colour chart and perhaps get the children to tick off the colour when they see a matching item, or if they are old enough, write on each colour what they saw that matched. |
