Dyslexia Assessment

Can anyone recommend a good company that is reasonably priced? for a full dyslexia assessment.

Has anyone heard of Bright Star in Manchester - are they any good - I presume they are a certified (?) reputable company???????

Most places such as dyslexia action cost about £450-500 a pop but bright star are offering it for as little as £250 and I wonder why.

School won't do a full test - they have prelim tested him as most of you know and he has a SLD (dyslexia) and so far secondary seem to be quite supportive of him. However, I think for mine and his peace of mind we need to know the extent of it - where his strengths and weaknesses lie so we can target areas. Secondary have said if we get a private assessment they would 'take note of it'.

Its just that after his 'results' in SATs which was an ungraded for literacy I think it would be beneficial to know his reading age etc.....

oh hon, did you have no luck with getting one at the dyslexia association. I'm currently waiting for call back from school SENCO and the local DA - 2 weeks and no call back

Let me know how you get on as I'm pulling my hair out now.

the DA costs about £450 which i will try my darnest to get the dosh together but I came across that Bright Stars in Manchester who do an assessment for £250. But I wonder why......

no we just aren't getting anywhere fast - Harry has bought a book home saying he has to read it as the teacher says it will 'get his dyslexia better' if he reads more!

I am convinced James is dyslexic too and i am very interested in this new testing for 6yr olds.

can the DA not recommend someone else whos cheaper?

ours was 400 about 5 years ago

Golly Pip, make me ralise how luck I was with Harry.

He got an amazing assesment through school, done by a specialist and done in school time too.

The report made for hard reading, especially as his reading age was waaaaaay lower than his actual age made me mad that primary refused to accept he had any sen issues

Harry to has been given reading to do. Not to " cure" his dsylexia but to re affirm what he does know.

Pips, I just had a reply from the my local dyslexia association about the tutoring and assessments.

They are telling me that most of the tutors now do their own assessments and these can be cheaper than an Ed Psych assessment.

Maybe worth contacting a few tutors to see what they charge??? I'm going to see.

Do you have any specialist dyslexic schools near you?

I paid £450 from the DA for my eldest - but then realised that a specialist dyslexic school did the full assessments too and only cost £200 and £100 for an update ( thats how long the tribunal took!!)

The school ones are not worth the paper they are written on.... I was told both of mine were not dyslexic based on their test. Then a full assessment showed both were actually classed as 'very severely dyslexic' based on their IQ's in comparison with their literacy results ( both of mine did not have maths difficulties).
