I was looking at these. The only thing that concerned me was the type of books downloadable onto it.
Can you only download from amazon or can you get them anywhere else?
I love the idea of a kindle.

OOOH, said to hubby "you know at some point I really would like a kindle"...reply "yeah I know, leave it at that, I know!"...not that I've mentioned it at all in the last month!
Come back David....
I went into the bookshop today and they showed me one of these...they put it in my hand!! Very crafty move!! I want one now
You can even download academic books and make notes on them - which is a positive for me doing the fd!
The amazon price is good, they were £50 more in waterstones.
I bought one for dh birthday today, I want it now!! I have so many books and they cause a lot of clutter, so will save a lot of space, hope he gets me one for christmas too

I bought one 2 weeks ago as an early christmas present (we are going away and I wanted to be up and running on it) It is BRILLIANT. I have already read 3 books and have bought over 20.
My husband is very happy not to have any more books in the house. I have usually bought 2 for £7 now £8 in Tesco. I have found most of the books I have bought to be cheaper than this and have also loaded free books. We have wireless internet in the house so I can even buy books when I am in bed. I find it very easy to read but had to adjust to the different feel of holding it.
The only problem I know have is that I misplace it so often as it is very small and gets lost under stuff. My husband hates wasting money on gadgets but he is really impressed with my Kindle.
So do you all reckon the kindle is the best e reader?
YES
DH wants to buy me one for Christmas, but I don't want one!
glad this thread has reappeared
i have bought hubby a kindle for christmas and am so excited i can't wait for it to arrive.
he travels all over the country by train and i thought he would love one to make the journies a little less stressful.
we had talked about me getting one for christmas but i don't think i'd use it as much as him
I have a feeling mine is under the tree as we speak!
Come back David....
i have a sony ereader and have got my mum a kindle for christmas
well i took the plunge and got Harry one for xmas. after discussing with the tutor at the dyslexia institute the text to speech facility will be brilliant for him.
his came today so I have downloaded some books for him, just a shame that Harry potter and several popular kids books aren't text to speech at the moment.
after playing with the kindle its brill and I really really hope Brian has got me one....
