Between boys and girls?

I know we try to be non stereotypical and offer the same opportunities to both sexes...

But... I am sure you have all seen differences - and similarities of course!

I am researching what makes boys and girls tick and why.

according to Ros Bayley, the differences go back way back when we were cavemen

but actually i have to say i agree.....

males were the hunters and had to focus on one thing (the prey) in order to survive

females were the more social ones, caring for the children, seeing to the home (cave dwelling) and communicating with the others, thats why woman are naturally more chatty

it is how we have evolved

I read your question differently to the others..... I thought you meant how do they play and act differently? In which case, I'd say that generally boys seem to be more boistrous (sp) in their play. They seem more drawn to action play - guns, cars etc, whereas girl play does tend to be calmer and more domestic.....

My 2 have been a real mixture. In some ways so sterotypical in play etc when they were young dolls/cars etc but then my DS has my laid back nature and DD is fiery like DH. Hopefully well rounded adults in the making - I live in hope

my 5 year old ds is very loving but also very independent.

he loves rough play (have had to stop this a bit though cos there was a punching incident at school)

he is always filthy when he comes in but it washes out, at least he has fun

never had any experience of girls, i only seem to get enquiries for boys too

my friend had 3 boys then a girl and she said all the boys were a lot easier than the girl

I have noticed.

Girls mature quicker.

Boys can turn any game into fighting/super heros/ war.

Boys tend to enjoy factual books.( and can become obsessed with familiar facts)

girls enjoy more story books.

Girls role play dolls/babies/families.

Boys sometimes role play families but have to be "in charge" the dad role!

I have to repeat myself to boys more when asking them to do something!

Boys leave the toilet door open when going to the loo!

Boys laugh at the slightly rudest thing they can think of!(girls roll their eyes!)

its funny how there seem to be negative things wrote about boys, interesting really. not meaning to offend by the way just stating a fact.

i actually prefer minding boys, not that i would ever choose not to have girls but i find that you know where you are with boys, they seem easier somehow.
girls can be a bit sneaky sometimes and i find that boys dont seem to get that! they just get on with life.

reading back what ive written, ive not explained myself well really but i know what i mean

oh sweets, definately. I have 2 girls and over the years the majority of kids I have minded have been boys and you are so right. Girls are very devious and downright bitchy at times but with boys what you see is what you get

I know what you mean, mine were not supposed to sound negative.

I think it's great to have a wicked sense of humour age 4, to not be bothered if someone sees you on the loo and great to be able to name every steam train or the length of every whale and dolphin!

working in a nursery I do see more differences now, even though they have the opportunity to do the same things.

Boys tend to need much more physical play

Girls have a better level of concentration

In a disagreement girls are more likely to be spiteful, whereas boys will be physical

Girls are more aware of emotions from an earlier age, both their own emotions & understanding other people's emotions

Boys can be incredibly loyal, whereas girls can flit from friend to friend

Girls are more independant

My DS is now nearly seven, he has recently started to tut at his sister (5yrs) as she leaves the door wide open.

As for the rudeness, IME that is age related rather than gender related.
