Kids aged 7-8yrs old are truly horrid!

And my almost 8yr old (in three weeks) is the worst. This last week they have been catching frogs from the pond and being gentle with them and observing them in the tank.
But this afternoon I've sent both my girls to go and play outside as I caught them doing a horrid thing to the frogs...

They were bouncing them off the space hopper! I asked them why they did this and they said "So they can jump higher", but they did not think about hurting them.

They are banned from the pond now for the rest of the summer.

they should know better at that age - well any age as far as animals go

keep up the ban, hopefully there are lots more un-traumatised frogs to carry on the life cycle

it kind of is, and in two or three year olds this would be classed as a learning experience but with my serious face on, 8 year olds really should know what would happen. But, this so sounds like something my dd (just turned 8) would do, I do wonder if it is still "real" logic in their minds despite their age though rather than real cruelty - perhaps they are still stuck in that toddler investigation stage??. If they were stomping on them - I would argue no way but maybe as they can jump by themselves maybe they really didn't think they would get hurt jumping higher!

my 8 yr olds have been pushing each other into the sandpit, have broken the rain cover on my single buggy and broken a flag on the crazy golf.....



all between 3.15 and 5.15!

I cannot stand any cruelty to animals and at almost eight children are old enough to know better. They know what pain is and about hurting things.

Well done from banning them from the pond, just dont back down on this one

Can I just say, my youngest son he's 8 yrs old (9 in Sept) is lovley,
But
My eldest boy is 11 (12 in sept) and is a pain in the bottom most of the time and has been since he was approx 6yrs old..

They say that kids change every 7 years and from my experience when they get to around 7 common sense goes out the window - their friends are the most important people in the universe and you are the person trying to stop them having fun - now age 14 is another story altogether!!
