Default all schools to become academies?

I've just caught the news on the radio ...

ALL schools to become academies by 2022? thus removing all schools from LA remit?

and therefore, I guess, removing the need to fund them too.

    not impressed.

All I can say is that I am pleased both DD & DS will be out of secondary education by then, and hopefully out of A levels too.

Blimey, they sneaked that one in quietly, didn't they?

I'm totally undecided on academies as I've seen very different results in local schools - one dreadful and one amazing.

What I do know is that I think it should be up to each individual school to decide, not something that's forced on them.

It's worryingly similar to the childminder agency debacle. I suppose we should be very grateful that they didn't force them on us

I have had endless stressful, probably futile conversations tonight, with family and friends about this....."we'll do what we want regardless of research and statistics" say the conservative government ....and we think we live in a democratic society! ....oh yes they were voted in...so all those folks that voted UKIP instead of labour I expect are happy!

I am not a happy bunny tonight.

March 15 th will go down in history as the day they announced the demise of the British state education system.

Quote from Michael Rosen - which I believe is realistic.

'Prediction: local authorities left with a statutory duty of care of 'children' under 16 will have to set up an archipelago of pupil referral units, special schools etc on shoestring budgets. They will be 'dumping' grounds for academies having to prove themselves to sponsors and chains.'

I have seen in action Acadamy chains finding ridiculous reasons to expel a child and refuse to take him into their school. What I witnessed had a happy ending because a local Authority school was able to carry on his education...successfully ...what would happen to him after 2022? Where will he go?

    I am still infuriated.

They are going to cut funding but want secondary schools to stay open for longer!

    Words fail me :-(

FFS , its all about the economics and not at all about the child. Shades of Elizabeth Truss but on a wider and even more devastating scale.
