Sad news
Just had some very sad news about a little boy I used to look after, he died last night as the result of a drowning accident. He only came to me for a short time but he was a lovely, cheeky little boy. He was down at the river near us playing by a weir, he slipped and fell into the water and the current took him under the weir.
He was only 9 and he was with two of his friends who witnessed everything.
Part of me is heart broken but another part of me is saying why did his Mum let him go down there in the first place, am I wrong to be thinking this way? I think that it is just the shock creeping in. I am so sad at the moment.

I was reading about this before. It's incredibly sad.
I think your thoughts are all over the place when you hear of something like this happening to someone you know. I'm sure his mum will be forever tormented by the same thoughts

Oh Teacake, what a dreadful thing to happen. It's just so awful when a child dies, and his poor friends who were with him, they must be devastated. Hugs for you.

Oh how awful. His poor, poor family. My heart goes out to his friends who were with him too. Hope you are okay. x

Its always sad to hear about a child dying. You must be in bits. My heart goes out to you.
But hold onto those memories of him, I think its normal to analyse if we could have done something to prevent a devastating situation like this, and like someone else said, his mum may be thinking the same as you. But he was 9, old enough to play with his friends, this was a very sad accident. Those poor friends that witnessed it too.
What sad news to have to bare.

RIP little man
Hope his parents and friends get the help to deal with this awful tragedy

such sad news. My thoughts are with you and his family. It's the kind of thing you read about but never think it will be someone you know.

So sorry to hear this, I think the mum and family will all be blaming someone for a very long time, it's what grief does to us. We can't be with our children 24/7 they need independence and wrapping them up in cotton wool only makes bigger problems for them when they are older. This poor mum will be tormented for years about this. Life is so cruel. 9 years old he's just a baby, heartbreaking news. Thinking of you all.

Oh that is just so sad and tragic. I know how you must be feeling as many many years back when I was in college I was doing regular babysitting for a 4 year old (maybe even 3) at her house and one day I got a call to say she had died suddenly due to an undetected tumour on the brain which had ruptured after a fall off a horse after the horse threw her off. hadn't been babysitting for her for too long before it happened, but long enough for it to hit me for six! I didn't attend the funeral. I do know where you are coming from when you say why was the child allowed to play by the weir, but maybe the parents were unaware, but on the other hand you tell your children to not go near this and near that, although you do wonder if they listen.
