    Default odd email

hmmm, i just got an email from an old friends email address ...

i haven't spoken to this friend for over a year ( what with one thing and another! ) but had an email saying they had had to go to spain to look after an ill cousin, could i lend them GBP 1,500 and they would pay me back as soon as got ill cousin to this country ? but bizarrely, email was signed off in my friends wifes name ( which is half of the email address ). the wording is slightly strange and just doesn't read like my friend ( or his wife! ) wrote it, and if help was needed, i a) wouldn't expect them to ask me or b) ask by email! i would expect them to ask someone closer, or if truly truly needed financial help, that their daughter would know and would give us a ring ( she is also an old friend! )

i'm a bit concerned it was/is a hoax email that has somehow got into their emails and i hope not contaminated mine!

anyone else had anything like this?

firstly run a virus scan on your pc/laptop/ipad, then change your password to a huge and difficult one on your email, its a myth not to write it down, as the chances of being burgled and passwords being nicked is as unprobable as being hit by a bus, I have all mine noted in a book. Is there any other way you can communicate with your friend do so, if not open a new google/hotmail up, just for the purpose to send her an email that she has been hacked and her email is being used as a scam/spam (you can delete the account once done).

    THIS IS A SCAM x

I have had personalised messages from both my daughters guitar teacher and dance teacher, both had their accounts hacked and looked very much like they had sent them, but they hadn't.

It wouldn't have made any difference if I had changed my E-mail passwords as it was their account that had been hacked.

We've had one of these in the past!! A "friend" of dh's that we don't see very much of apparently were on holiday and had lost all their money/cards etc.

Just so happened that their son played cricket with ours and dh asked him if his parents were on holiday - answer NO!!!
    Just deleted it!!

I kept getting emails from my mother in law saying how much viagra had enhanced her and her husbands sex life!

When I told her she was absolutely mortified (hubbies family are very prudish!) especially when she found out the email had been sent to everyone in her address book. They run a business from home and all their customers were lucky enough to get the email too.

This scam was shown on one of those consumer programmes, the one with Gloria Hunniford, she was able to find a mobile number and phoned it. At first the man was saying he was a friend of her friend and to send £1500 immediately, when she said she was from the BBC he soon hung up. Funny that

It does sound like a scam I have had these in the past and some of my friends have had emails from me. I had to change my password to my email account which stopped it.
I would email your friend and let them know what has happened as it sounds to me as though they have been hacked and the hacker is using their email address book to send these email to everyone of their friends.

I was hacked into last month and they changed the password so I couldn't get into it, I only managed to sort it out last week.

I haven't heard anything yet about any scams that they sent so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

My sil works for a large company and her md got an email suggesting the sex improving tablets
    She was mortified
