    Default Bit depressed on birthday.

Was hoping my boyfriend would make an effort this year. I will be thirty and we have been together eight years. It's my birthday tomorrow. He comes home from work with a bunch of funeral flowers - white lillies, white carnation ... meh .. just having a moan really. Was hoping he knew me better. Can't help feeling a bit dissapointed and now he's told me I've ruined his good mood and gone off out with his mates. Birthdays suck.

(((Hugs)))) Happy birthday for tomorrow anyway. Flowers are over rated. Give him big hints about going out for a meal or something.

awwww honey, men don't see things the same way as we do...... he's possibly quite hurt about you turning your nose up at his flowers - I don't know him but I know my husband likes some hints and ideas to help him along - so he can do something I'd like - but I'm in the 'birthdays are overrated' box and I'm not too fussed whether an effort is made or not tbh!! Have you got any mates to come round and cheer you up?

I turned down the meal offer too.

'Do you want to take the kids out to Pizza Express when I get home from work?'.

    Er, no.
Can't think of anything more stressful than my daughter crawling about under the table yelling out 'Wee Wee' and 'Willy' at the other diners. Need to do some serious disciplining soon

My DH is the same. He'll (offer to) give me money to buy something I want (but it never materialises!). One year he took me and DD to pizza hut for dinner then forgot his wallet
My first mothers day was the worst as he did NOTHING to mark the occasion and it really hurt. The next year I got a card and when he realised I was a little upset he said "I got you a card didn't I?"
Why don't they realise that you just want to be spoilt for the day and have a lie in (if poss), a cup of tea/coffee in bed and not have to do the housework, cooking and looking after the kids?!?
Have a FABBYDOZY birthday and I second the ice cream idea

PS, hubby does sometimes randomly come home with lovely flowers for me now

I second the birthday depression thing. It was my big birthday on Tuesday and although hubby and I are going away in November for our birthdays I would have loved him to buy me something to celebrate my big birthday. Just from him something that I would always have to remind me of my 50 th. but no nothing at all.

Have a lovely day though and spoil yourself

    oh debratina that is awful

OP if your boyfriend is rubbish at birthdays you need to tell him what you expect (or every year will be a disappointment and make you cross). Tell him 'is it too much effort to expect a card and thoughtful gift every year'. If he says yes, then don't buy him one either - see how he likes it

Meantime, make your own celebrations, call your girlfriends and then just tell your boyfriend you are off out with the girls to have a proper celebration
if you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got

Tbf the the op's oh he did buy flowers and said he would take her out with the children for tea.

I would be classing that as a success I have to tell my dh want i want.

    But happy birthday
