    Default Toothfairy's Cambridge Diet Diary

    Hi All

Well, I've gone and done it, I've joined.
I had my first weigh in.

I have a lovely councellor called Sarah, who ran me through the Diet.

I have 12 stone to loose but I am taking it 1 stone at a time.

I have chosen the sole source option, so I have my 7 shakes and 14 soups for the week.

So, here I go, wish me luck...........

    Hi all

Well, had a bit of a false start, as I have had an upset stomach all weekend so had to postpone my start date to today.

I have had my Banana shake for breakfast which was ok. It was still a bit powdery even though I mixed it for ages.

    Have a great day

Good luck - I'm going back to it from today after a break, did it for 6 weeks and lost 2 stone earlier in the year - then I hit my personal brick wall where I knew I was going to struggle so decided to stop for a bit. Have had a very social couple of weeks and put half a stone back on so going to nip it in the bud & take it a bit further!

I find using very cold water helps and also a stick blender. I have it over ice too, never tried banana as I dont like that flavour generally. Choc mint, strawberry and choc are my top 3, most of the soups are nice too.

Remember to drink all your water it really seems to make a difference xx

Put your shakes in a blender with water and ice and it gets rid of the powdery texture

Good luck honey......I am sure that you will do fine.

As the others have said the best way to do the shakes is either with a handblender (something like one of those Braun one's) or in a jug blender......The trick to making the shakes is to make sure that the water is as cold as possible.

I mix mine up to something like the consistency of a MacDonalds milkshake and they are scrummy!

I have a jug blender that crushes ice so I start off with 8-10 ice cubes and crush them down I then add 200ml of water (from the fridge so it's cold) and the powder. I then whizz up whilst adding probably 5-6 more ice cubes. I keep blending and using a spatula to turn it over and mix it up until I get a smooth thick consistency (a bit like slightly melted ice cream).

I then use the spatula to slide the shake into a pint glass and use a wide necked straw to drink it........

It takes a few minutes to make it but it is well worth while and is absolutely delicious. The best one's to do this with is the Strawberry, Banana, Vanilla & Fruits of Forest.

I am not a fan of the soups either and don't have them.........I usualloy find that most women prefer the shakes and most men prefer the soups.......funny but that is how it works out

    Good luck honey

I don't think I can do this, the soups are horrid. I was on duty last night so took a Spicy Tomato soup with me to have.

I kept stirring and mixing but it still had a layer of grainy powder on top and when you drank it, it was very grainy. It made me gag so I ended up pouring it down the sink and not having anything.

I had a cappuchino shake this morning and that wasn't to bad.
I am using water from the fridge and my hand blender but they still come out powdery.

Would I be better off swapping to the bars?

You don't have to have the soups, you can just have shakes for the first couple of weeks and then have a bar a day after that (and the bars are really nice).

I think the best thing you could do is to contact your CDC immediately. She will be more than happy to exchange the soups for you as it sounds like you really will not get on with them.

It is recommended that you wait for 2 weeks at least before going onto the bars as they have a higher level of carbohydrate in them and can stop you from going into Ketosis.

I would suggest that you ask for some more of the sachet shakes......the other thing you could have is the Tetra Briks.....they are already made shakes that come in cartons and would probably suit you better when you are on duty.

They come in 3 different flavours - Strawberry, Banana & Chocolate. I would also recommend that you drink them as cold as possible so if you haven't got fridge facilities to store them at work then you can carry it in a thermos bag with an ice pack to keep it cold.

I'm having the vegtable soup for lunch today, I will see how I get on with that one.
If its as horrid as the rest I will swap them for shakes.

I don't think she does the ready made shakes but I will ask.

    Thanks for all your advice.

Try adding more water to the shakes, i take it to just over the 300ml and zap for a good minute to make sure its done

I cant stand the soups either, the tetras are lovely and smooth but i find i dont feel full if i use them before ketosis

Keep going you are doing great

She should do as it is a requirement that we have a full range of the products available.

How was the soup at lunch?
