Your first aid course should be paid for through you initial start up grant - subsquent ones you will pay for

Check with your CIS and see whats available in your area, what you can get funding for etc

i'm from walsall and and i've had to pay for all of my courses including my first aid we do get it as a reduced amount as a childminder instead of 50.00 we were charged 15.00 but as i did 4 courses last year i spent £50 on courses and i couldent claim it back i was told to add it on my account book. but last month it all changed for the better now.......... all the courses are free for childminders to attend but if you dont turn up or fail to give a weeks notice of not being able to go your charged £50

    i agree it is unfair
we am lucky that we with the guiding movement and only had to pay £5.00
for our first aid as we need it to do guiding
otherwise we would have had to pay £104.00 for the two of us to do it

It depends on how much funding is available in certain areas, in our area the funding for the DHC has run out and anyone wanting to do it will have to pay or part fund themselves.

Many places include the First Aid course in the initial start up grant

When I lived in Oxford I had to pay £65 for first aid course, I'm so glad they are free in Stoke, for now

Totally agree they should be free to everyone though

My First Aid runs out in Sept but I will get a course in my start-up grant. Carmathenshire CIS run subsidised courses for anyone in the county working with children has just gone up to a massive £10 . Food hygiene is also £10. SEN & child protection is £5. So looks like we are lucky here.

They should be the same everywhere.

Our first aid courses used to be free but due to people booking places on the courses, then not bothering to turn up, we have to pay around £25 non refundable deposit now.
