    I think the standard amount is 6 under 8's with 3 of those being in the early years group and now more than one of those under 1.

    My numbers are the same as posted above, that is the standard amount of children allowed and then they take your own children away from that total to give you the number of minded children allowed in your care at any one time.

    I'm also sure that even if the child is under 5, if the child has started school full time you can apply to Ofsted for a variation on the rules which allows that child to be counted in the 'over 5's' group. You still have to EYFS obs and planning for them where you can, but it free's up an under 5's place in your setting.
