    Default pond safety

Hi all, I have now completed training, first aid etc, applied to ofsted, and I'm now just waiting on DBS checks to come back and when I phoned ofsted today I was told that it shouldn't be long until they arrange my pre reg visit. scary! Anyway I am just finishing up some paperwork today and looking at my risk assessments. My one concern is the pond at the bottom of our garden. We have a play area which is through an archway at the bottom of the garden. The pond is at the end and when we moved in in April it was unfenced/un covered. Having two little ones ourselves my husband put a trellis fence around it. Its more of a deterrent than anything as it wouldn't withstand being climbed up however my children aren't allowed in the play area without me or my husband anyway. I am aware that even though the children will never be left unsupervised that I need to come up with something more substantial. Any ideas? Have I left this a bit late ? If I have my pre reg and I tell them of my plans would that be ok or will they fail me?

    thanks

This might help - its for school ponds but will help you focus on what to put in a risk assessment.

Well managed and H&S 'ied ponds I think are a great outdoor interest.

We pond dip in the brook/ lake round the corner - everybody loves it ! Including me, once I had 'trained' them on dangers!
