Jolly Phonics

Do any of you do the Jolly phonics work books with your mindees?

My DD is at a stage where she doesn't want to play with toys she wants to learn, so we are learning about time, days of the week and she is beginning to start reading, I was thinking about buying the Jolly Phonics workbooks just wondering if it would benefit her and the other mindees?

I have the jolly phonics workbooks http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jolly-Phonic...3980&sr=8-1and for my 4 year old, they don't engage her at all. Just colouring and copying letter formation.

However, when I was at ELC I recently saw the activity books http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jolly-Phonic...1723980&sr=8-5. Much more colourful / sticker type of books which I hope will be more fun.

My DD and mindees all love the jolly songs http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jolly-Songs-...1723980&sr=8-2 and we listen to them in the car on the school run.

I am doing Jolly Phonics with my two nearly four year olds as that is what our local school does and they also are sponges and eager to learn. We started off learning all the letter sounds and phonemes (sp) and then they began blending to make simple words. I have at the moment lots of common first words stuck around and we play games with them. They love it but like anything 10-15mins a day is plenty. It is easy to make it fun with the sounds and actions and they pick it up very easily, even the 14 month old is making some of the sounds. I would say do it if they are eager and make it lots of fun x

It's usually recommended to find out what reading scheme the local school are going to use... or the child could be confused later.
