    Default Schemas?

    Hi

If a child always plays with cars, lays on floor with them watching the wheels go round, pushes them along a table top etc is this a schema or merely just that they love cars? The child always goes to the transport box first and would be happy to play with cars all day.

I am doing some planning for this child and wanted to write up some details but not sure if i have got the "Schema" thing right.

    Thanks for any advice

It could be a schema - but could also just be a love of cars.

It sounds like it is the wheels that might be interesting him at the moment - so to test out if a schemme it might be an idea to plan some activities with wheels - water or sand wheels, riding trikes or push alongs, making wheels from cardboard tubes and rolling, if you have one nearby a visit to a waterwheel or an industrial muesum (where might have lots of wheels and cogs and other things that go round to look at)

If a schema he might also like to roll himself on the floor or to look closely at the wheels on real cars, or use a rolling pin to roll playdough or pastry.

If he shows no interest in any other wheels or other things that rotate - then it would seem he just loves cars.

I love testing out my theories about schema's - and to know if on the right tracks or not.

I too have a little boy who always goes for the cars or trains when he is here. However I noticed that he lines them up and moves them one at a time in a line. Then I started noticing how he lines up other things too - crayons when colouring, bricks, etc - so whilst he enjoyed playing with cars his schema was linear.

    Hope this makes sense.
