    Default Speach and Language Therapy

I have just received a phone call to say that they would like to offer me a place on the Speech and Language Course. I think this would make me a specialist setting for children with speech and language difficulties.
I'm told that this isn't offered to all childminders! Feel quite honoured TBH!
Has anyone got any further information on this or done the course already?
I have already done the Talking Matters course and just apllied to go on the signs and symbols course.
Any help or advice would be welcom.

go for it hon, I'd jump at the chance. I did a behaviour/communication issues course with ICAN and can honestly say it was one of the only courses (that an one about working with Aspergers children) that actually taught me anything as they didn't read from a prescriptive book. They used real life experiences and those teaching it still worked with children.

I'm guessing this will be run by SLT's with lots of experience of working with children so it will be well worth it.

    Go for it.
I did one with Elklan over the summer. it was for 10 wks and at the end i came out with a level 3 in speech and language support for the under 5s. i even get 6 credits with it, so i am well pleased with it.

    Thanks
I'm going to go for it.
I think it's part of the 2 year pilot scheme for children under 2 with issues with their speech and language.
From what I can gather I get a child for any 15 hours during a week (I decide which 15hours it is to fit around my schedule) to encourage their speech and language development.

I did a 12 hour course and it was enlightening. Learnt what to look for, boundaries and expectations, how to observe and record and where to refer too

Liked it all apart from videoing myself and 11 other people watching it

    Enjoy
    Debbie
