When I started out I got most of my things from charity shops (well checked over!) and I advertised on Freecycle for any unwanted toys. You could also try gumtree or preloved and car boot sales (specially now there will be loads!).

A word of warning, dont buy cheap plastic toys when you start as they will break in no time, leaving sharp edges and you out of pocket. Better to invest in a few better quality things like wooden blocks, paper and pencils/chalk etc for art, lego is always a favourite for older kiddies, stickle bricks can often be found in boot sales (buy genuine as the cheaper models seem to not fit properly after a while)

    Hope that helps xx
