    Question Unsocial rate...

Does anyone charge a different rate for unsociable hours?

I start minding at 6.30am but just charge my normally hourly rate, it's for 3 children from the same family, so worth me doing.

Word has got out that I do these mad hours and I'm getting a lot of interest from new parents because of it. I'm considering charging an unsocial hourly rate before 8am (thats when all the other child minders in the area start).

    What does anyone else think?

My first child arrives at 740 and they are all gone by 6, so I charge my normal rate... I think if you set a time you think it is fair to start, then anything beyond that is overtime.

Only trouble I would see is if it's a family of 3 you might be shooting yourself in the foot suddenly upping fees.

Good luck with whatever you decide

Oh, I wouldn't dream of upping the charges for the family I currently mind for. Like I say it's worth my while getting up early for 3 children.....

However my concern is taking on more children at the early hours then the 3 I have now move on, I wouldn't like to be getting up at 5.30am everyday for 1 child on normal rate.

The new unsocial hours rate would be for new children only.

Sorry I didn't really make that clear in my op.

For unsocial hours I charge and extra £2 onto my normal fee.

Some others charge double but I think thats a little bit too much.

All i can say is make it worth your while for getting up so early

hi, i charge £3 between 8 and 6, between 7 and 8am and 6 til 7pm its £3.50 anything before that i charge £5.00 per hour, never had a parent complain even a parent who fetched two kids at 6 in the morning! I wouldnt change the parents you have but def change the ones coming to you from now. I wouldnt be up and dressed for only £3 for one child at 6 in the morning, when i was getting up, my kids woke up too and then they wouldnt settle down so at tea time they were falling to sleep at the table! def worth changing.

    good luck

I would charge unsocial hours before 8am and after 6pm as this is my family time so if someone wants me to work longer they have to pay me more

I also charge extra before 8am or after 6pm, it goes from 3.00 an hour to 4.50 but having said that at the moment I am too soft to do it as the ones I have were my first lot of customers. Would def. bring it in for anyone new though!

That sounds very fair to me - especially for starting before 7.30am

    Good luck

    SNAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I try not to do unsocial hours regularly as it interferes with my family life too much, I do it more for existing families on the odd occasion
***** proofed the house but they're still getting in!
