Default What support do you get for your EAL mindees?

Maybe in my naievty I thought I would phone my DO and get advise on rescources for my new mindee whose parents speak their own language at home and all the time to him. Or additional learning for myself, groups to visit etc. I was wrong, the DO was apologetic that they couldn't help . I just thought that I would have more support as it'll be me talking & teaching him English which is such an important job. Wondered if this was typical of LA's around the country?
