What I do is to collect up observations as I go along whenever I spot something I feel I want to write down. Later I look at them, sort out which ones are important for the child's next steps of their learning or to tell me something about what they like to do or how they learn... then I do my planning, from these observations. A while later, when I've got a few collected together, I put them into the child's learning journey file and see which areas I might not have observed yet or any bits that the child might need encouragement and working with to help him on his learning journey and I put those on his next steps list...
xand another thing ,i was going to do an assesment on the new little boy i have hes 2, do i do it under the headings of psed, kuw, cd etc.
This is a tricky one - if you haven't been inspected yet and you are due an inspection before September then you need to be using Birth to 3 matters still... there are threads around that will give you activity ideas etc. Once you have been inspected or by September, you can move over to the EYFS, which is all the psed, cll etc...
The reason it's tricky is because we are using 2 different systems depending on whether we've been inspected... but the inspectors haven't been trained on EYFS yet, so they won't be able to inspect on it...
