    Default After school clubs pickups

    What do you do?

Business is slow round here and sometimes I get asked to pick up children from after school clubs often I pick up from school at 3 and then on odd occasions I've had to go back to school for 4pm (its 3 mins walk) or do a drop off in the next village to an after school activity. However I usually have 3 other children which means they have to come with me to pick up or drop off.
I appreciate the business the odd hour here and there, but tbh its not exactly great for the other children being shipped around.

I was wondering what your policies are for after school clubs?

Personally we dont pick up from them and would only drop off to an early evening activity if and while it fitted with our other arrangements and as an informal agreement.

The only after school activities we would consider going out for is for our own children and the other stays at home with mindees, but we are a dh and wife team, I dont think as a single childminder i would want to go out more than necessary, so maybe only to collect/drop off if it was the same as a club my child was at and only when they were there!

during warmer months I tend to hang around at the school and wait for clubs to finish and the others like playing but this year I have asked children not to do clubs on days they come to me just for this term as its to cold this term to hang around

I haven't been asked yet but I wouldn't do it to be honest. I already do a school run in the morning, then again for the nursery at lunchtime and then afternoon school run at 3 so the 2 LO's have to go back and forth to school enough. Anyway I need to get tea for 4.15 - 4.30 so just wouldn't be possible.

I don't even for children I already mind. As you say, not fair on other children plus I have to cook tea for everyone.

I take mine to clubs and collect from ones straight from school, at the moment I take to swimming on 2 seperate days, performing arts and Kumon. All the children I have attend at least one so that is part of the deal, yes I can take/collect your child but you have to understand that there are day your child will have to come with me to other clubs.

I pick up from after school clubs but charge from the end of school. I think it is nice for all children to be able to go to the clubs it is a nice way for them to socialise on a more formal basis. Especially those children that attend every night as they may not ever get the opportunity to go to these clubs or have friends around for tea etc. I probably wouldnt do clubs that arent associated with their schools

Some of my mindees go to after school clubs which means about an hour wait and its not worth me going home, not so bad in the summer because we can go to one of two nearby parks but otherwise I go to the local library which is very close if its a day when library is closed we may go to the supermarket which is also close and they choose a cake, in the winter we sit in the supermarket cafe. I dont really want a mindee to miss out on an after school activity.

thanks for your perspectives. I think I'll probably pick up and drop off if convienient (sp) but if it means moving children backwards and forwards to school to collect others I'll just say no.

The parents I suppose would then have to decide whether to pay me to mind the child with a pick up at 3pm, or make other arrangements.

I have in the past when I had children aged over 5 who can just hop out of the car with me.

However, when I signed up more babies I did try but, I would get home from school at 4pm and very quick snack and back in the car for 4.30pm! It was too much for me and I had to explain to parents that I was not superwoman

They fully understood my position and thanked me for collecting when I could and then arranged for grandparents/friends to collect.

It was such a relief when I didnt have to do it and could relax over snack time and activities.

You have to do whats best for you.
