Childminding over 8's

I would like something clarified if someone could help, if a 9 year old is required to be looked after, do you have to be on the voluntary register to do this and is this compulsory, or do you have to be registered at all?

You can be on the voluntary register (the clue is in the word voluntary!) and you do not have to be registered if you only mind children over the age of 8 (which I think is bizarre buy hey!)
