    Default Childminder in rented accommodation

    Hi!
I'm about to start the process of getting registered as a childminder, but need some help! I have been in contact with my landlord and he is FINE with me childminding from his house, but what does he/I need to do about insurance?
Is public liability insurance enough, or does he need to do something with his building/home insurance? Do we need to do anything with our contents insurance?
    Thanks xxx

He/you need to talk to your/his current insurers and just ask. Might be that it is already covered, might be an extra cost.

Public liability is nothing to do with your property, it is in case you are sued for doing something, harm to mindee etc. You have to get this as a condition of your Ofsted registration.

Buildings insurance might not be affected because that is for the roof, house structure etc (but check with insurer as you will have to declare the use as childminding setting). This is the one your landlord will probably have to check

Home contents insurance is the one that will most likely be effected eg: if a mindee wreaks your sofa or pours their drink on your TV etc. But ask insurer specifically what is covered in terms of damage done by mindees as that is not always included. You may want a specialist childcare insurer/broker like Blue Fin or Morton Michel.
