When to pay for registration renewal

When do we pay for our registration renewal? Is it from the date we applied for registration or from when we actually passed and got our certificate?

You will receive your invoice but you can also opt to pay by Direct Debit if that is your preferred option

I pay by direct debit but still get a paper invoice that goes in with my receipts.
