Default where do you store your fotos?

I'm having a photo moment it seems.. trying to figure out the best way of storing them.. I've been doing this by getting photos developed but am running out of space and money doing it this way as I invariably print to many and then don't use them all ..
I'm now erring towards putting them in disc and don't know how this works..??
do I save to my computer.. can I put them straight on disc.. how do you keep your childminding photos separate on the computer from your family ones?

any help would be great .. thanks a lot!xxx

I just used to print them off and then delete them as wasn't sure about keeping them on computer and what implications this would have so avoided it altogether!

I upload them to the computer and then put them on a cd. That way, they are stored but I can also take the cd to the shop when i want to get prints done.
