Default Anyone know anything about these health problems

Does anyone know what the procedure for a heart scan for a child consists of? Also does anyone have any knowledge of a child with Mitral Valve Prolapse?

    Thanks

Hi! A heart scan for a child would be an echocardiogram (a specialised ultrasound). Have a look on the great ormond street website. A mitral valve prolapse is a defect in the valve between two chambers of the heart. Don't know lots of detail but a quick google search should give you more info. Sorry not v helpful I know!

hi, my daughter had an echo and some other cardio tests when she was about 6 as they found she had a murmer, dont know anything at all about the condition you describe but if you are just wondering about the tests, they are quick, no pain, non invasive and the doctor kept my daughter entertained by showing her the images on screen as she was going alone and telling her what everything was, so my daughter was very comfortable and not at all scared. its the same as an ultrasound on your pregnany belly

Thank you . Do they not have to sedate the child then? That's my main concern. Hope they hurry up and arrange the appt.

My son has regular echoes and he has never been sedated..... And he has asd. They always put a tv on with a choice of DVD to watch while they do it. His normally takes between 5-15 mins depending on how wriggly he is (3.5yrs). It really is nothing to worry about.
