I have lost two mindees recently due to both moving out of area, and have taken a girl on for take to school 3 mornings a week 7 - 7.45 (drop at breakfast club at school for 8 am). Mum is paying me £40 for 3 mornings (10 min drive to school) so this includes petrol money. I am in effect earning £10 an hour (£10 for petrol for three mornings probably costs me £6). The only problem is I have other children arrive later so I can do it but I hate getting up at 7 am and always have. Would you do it for the sake of money? I don't have to give breakfast as we leave here at 7.45 for school. Am I just being lazy as I have to be up at 7.30 for other mindee?

I agree it would be worth it to me. Once the lighter mornings come, its much much easier to get up early

Well £40pw is £160pm and 1 or 2 of those mount up.

How ever you should be careful over charging for petrol because that is seen as Hire and Reward by car insurers and so would invalidate your current insurance. If you just charge an inclusive fee for the work then that is fine.

Getting up early only you can decide what works for you. I am up at 6.30am every morning ready for the first 2 who arrive at 7.15am and it doesn't bother me.

I have an adhoc mindee who comes at 7am and leaves 8.15 to walk to the local private school. I charge £10.

I work to 5.30 / 6pm 4x a week, so on days when he comes at 7am I feel REALLY tired.

I like the fact that its adhoc (about 12x a month on average) but not sure if I would like to do it more than that.

What time do you finish in the evenings usually ?

I hate getting up and I'm not a morning person, but I'm up early for my kids so I'd do it, but if it makes you unhappy its not worth it!

I am not a morning person and it kills me to be ready for my 8am mindee

I don't have any schoolies and my 2yr old dd stays in bed till 9am but I would go to bed half an hour earlier for £40 a week

Thanks for all your comments, I think it's me being lazy really. It's not hard work, not much paperwork i.e. learning journals etc. Im lucky as I finish at 5/5.30 most days and 3 pm on a Friday at the moment.

Think I will keep at it and see if the light mornings make me feel different.

i would do it for now but if you end up with other mindees 5 days who come at 7.30 or 8.00 who need to be fed before they are walked/driven to school you might not have time to give THEM breakfast.
