Air freshener

Hi guys know this is a daft one but what do you all do about air fresheners? I've only got a small house and 'cos it's so cold,can't always open windows.Have got gel ones but they do nothing when it comes to really whiffy nappies

Are ofsted ok with spray ones? Or am I being really ridiculous

I hate the spray chemical air fresheners breathing in chemicals. I'd open the window just for a short time or use a home made air fresher with natural oil fracrance

I hate air freshners and think they should be banned! They are poisonous. I have a gel one and some pot porri (sp) in several places out of reach. After wiffy nappies i open window for a short time or the front door with safety gate closed. I dont know what ofsted like you to do regarding spray ones ive never heard anything sorry.

I light scented candles or an oil burner in the kitchen where the kids cant reach it.

Sprays are awful especially if children have asthma or skin conditions.

I always open the window for a bit

I am with gemhei on this - think the air fresheners should be banned. They set my eldest (and my mum) of wheezing and gasping for air, they irriate my airways.

I read somewhere that Ofsted don't like them (or I may have dreamed it - I do have the occasional nightmare - either zombies or EYFS).

I use lavender oil in a burner and open the window (hate chemical smells).

I use plug in air fresheners, but keep them up high as they can harm a child if they managed to get the perfume.

i use oil burners too, downstairs, in the hour before kids arrive. then i have an auto spray thing for upstairs/staircase. all well out of reach. wot about those puresse ones - meant to be anti-allergy i think??

I use a puresse plug in one and have done for a long time, no-ones ever complained about it, lasts for absolutely ages and smells gorgeous, in fact all my mindees mums comment on how nice the house smells and now use them in their own homes, ofsted never mentioned it.

One of my mindees said I smelt like Fabreeze - I dab lavender oil on my wrists - cheeky monkey.

Are we ok to use plug-in air fresheners?

At the moment I use the febreeze ones and they do a wonderful job! I have one downstairs by my front door so its the first thing you smell when you walk in and one at the top of my stairs...I have recently removed the one at the top of the stairs as my 10 month old kept using it to pull herself up! But the one downstairs goes un-noticed as its tucked in a corner!

In my whole house I only have one plug that is high up and thats right next to my kettle in my kitchen...i've got no objection to having one plugged in there but don't think it'll do the house much good smell wise!!!

I have a febreeze one but do not use it at all when minding. They are not good for children. I open the window a bit usually. I also have a lovely yankee candle teacake burner

(Like oil burners) which is gorgeous but rarely use it when minding.

The chemicals can be absorbed into the body and cause a whole load of problems for the children, not just breathing but with their growth and brain. Cant find a link about it but ill try have another look. People love having nice smelling homes but they do not realise they are damaging everyones health! There should be more warnings about these things. I love my home to smell nice thats why i open a window.
