How often?
I'm guessing the answer varies, but how often do you do a self-evaluation? How often do Ofsted recommend? Is it every year - do people feel this is enough?
Thanks, fairly new to this!

I aim to update my SEF every 6 mths ... it's usually closer to 12mths though!
What I do, is rather than rewrite each section is just put the date ie 12/16 and add a comment to say what has changed or I'm doing differently. That way I feel the inspector can see how you are developing. Xxx

Thanks that's helpful! Just spent nap time attempting to make a start - it's long!! Thanks for the advice of just adding each time with the date- saves time and shows development - win win!

I do mine approximately once a year. I have a little notebook that I write 'scrapy' notes in as I go along the year to remind myself when do eventually do sit down to do it.

If you mean, "how oftn do you do a SEF?" then the answer is I never do a complete one. I partly did one on paper for my last inspector, who said it was one of the funniest and most honest she'd ever read.
But I self-evaluate a lot more often. Piously, I'd like to say I self-evaluate several times a day. More honestly, I self-evaluate each time I make a c0ckup and realise I could've done something much better (which, to be fair, is several times each day. )

I update mine when something changes and I do try and review it 6 monthly.
I have just re-written mine after listening to and responding to my inspector's feedback - she said it needed cutting down to recent information which is what I have done.
I tend to put more focus on my action plan - how we improve for the future

I do an annual action plan. Review it half way through and at the end of set time. I base it on my evaluation and parents feedback and progress made by children and latest legislation.
My action plan has: evaluation of setting which led to this decision. Objectives for next year, what impact I hope it will have, ( impact it had, )date of expected outcome, support ( I.e. Personal training through courses or reading research or visits to other settings etc..) how I know it has had an impact.
I use this for my sef. But add a bit more on the evaluation of setting, giving positive evidence of areas.....which leads to the action plan objectives.
I look at the SEF in its official form once a year but as others have said, my daily self evaluations through my observations all add towards the annual evaluation.
Like Bunyip's says too.....often a negative happening leads you to rethink stuff...that's self evaluation!
