SEF
Hi all, just wanted to know if we have to do a self, is it a legal requirement?
Thanks
Smiles love emma

No it is not a legal requirement.
It is important to have evidence of self improvement and a SEF is as good a way as any of showing that
-
No, it is not. I have never done it.

I'm doing mine at the mo as do said good practice but I'm only doing it as a paper copy which I will keep in a folder and add to then mrs o can see it if she wants to x. It is a good way of self reflecting I'm finding x
I love my friends who live inside my laptop
xx

No, I do one but most of my childminder friends don't. If you are good at talking then it's fine.

The Ofsted SEF is not a requirement...what is required though is some form of self evaluation, wherever you access it or whichever format you use....I think this has to be in a written format not just by talking
The benefit of the OFSTED SEF is that your inspector will read it prior to your inspection if you download it...so she will have a good idea of what you do by your own reflection and actions for improvement etc etc
Any other type of self reflection will only be available on inspection day
Both are acceptable...the choice is yours

As Simona said, the online SEF is your chance to tell the inspector all the important features and good points of your setting before they come out to you. My inspector literally copied chunks of my SEF into my report- perfect!
I update it every 6 months online and submit it. It doesn't take long once you have done it the first time and Sarah505 has a great free guide to doing it (in free resources?) which makes it really easy to fill in.

Ages ago pacey said they were setting up an easier-to-use alternative to SEF via their website.
Can anyone tell me about this, as I've searched for it but not come up with anything.

They have an online CPD log which I use, but no proper SEF.

I think it is called Professional Occupational Standards(POS)....you choose the level and it is linked to your membership scale as in Affiliate, Fellow and Ambassador
The more advanced the longer the CPD hours are...I believe the top is around 25 hrs per year...If I remember correctly
But I have never heard of Pacey having an SEF?

Yes, that is another thing in addition to the CPD online log. I have did the POS process when it first came out.

If time spent on the Forum counts as CPD, then we can pretty much notch up a year's worth in a week here.
Hahaha, so very true!
I think if we were able to access a log of when we've logged on we'd surprise ourselves lol

I think the Forum is an umbilical cord for me - or at least a lifeline.
Whaddya mean "whinging and moaning" ??? At my age, it's only that and the cider that keeps me going.
