Who has told you you need one?

I lived in a flat for 10 years while minding and had a bunk bed. I used the bottom bunk to sleep 2+yr olds and a cover for the ladder was never mentioned by Ofsted.

I would say if you Risk Assess how it is managed and possibly put a small bolt or door alarm on the door into the room so you can stop mindees going in there.

I have an alarm similar to this on my Utility room door and I have cm friends who use them on cupboard doors where they don't want mindees to go.

I have an outdoor play loft which has a ladder (similar to bunk bed style) leading up to it. When I have under 3's in the yard I cover the ladder with a sheet of wood and a luggage strap pulled tight! It works well - I'm sure it would work for you too. Any old bit of wood that is the right size and a luggage strap from some supermarket - pennies.
