Assistants - payment & tax

Hi,

I am wondering how people are paying assistants?

Does everyone do it as an employee using sage or another payment program or have the assistants registered as self employed and invoice you?

Best to look at the HMRC website as they are only allowed to be self employed under specific rules. Like they have to work flexible hours and be available to work else where too or something like that. There is also a link on here about assistants I think its under resources.
