    Default Redundancy

I've employed my assistant now for 3 years. Last week I was given notice for a child and will now not have enough work for both of us. My assistant doesn't want to leave and I don't want her to go.

How does making someone redundant work? What do I have to do legally? If we get some work in her notice period can I make her un-redundant?

I know I have to give her redundancy pay, and I do not have a problem with this. The person at the NCMA helpline who deals with this is on annual leave!

    Hope someone can help
