    Default Self Employed Assistant

I have searched and read all the threads on this subject and there are so many conflicting answers! I would like to take on an assistant but for the time being I'm not wanting her for many (if any!) hours each week and I'm expecting it to be for a few hours here and there. She is an Early Years professional who has plenty of work experience. If she sets herself up as a freelance childminding assistant (even if she only works for me), can I take her on on a self employed basis?! I would employ her in the future if I had enough hours to offer her but for now this wouldn't be the case.

My neighbour used to be my assistant before I moved. She was self employed as she did a bit of caring for the elderly, a bit of nursing and a bit of working in an art gallery, as well as a couple of hours for me each week.
She used to invoice me at the end of the month and I paid her.
No help, but that's my experience. Good luck x

    My assistant was self employed,
I was told that as long as she was free to work elsewhere it was fine.... They don't have to work anywhere else but have the option to.
Never had any problems with HMRC or ofsted etc
    IS BACK
