    Default New assistant...questions...

Ok...I've been minding since 2005 and working with assistants since 2008.
So mum and mum-in-law were my assistants for years, but now they are getting older, got other commitments and not wanting to retrain etc...so went back to working by myself.

Anyway, long (and boring) story short...I've just taken on another assistant, who seems great, but wondered where I stand if assistant is collecting from one school and me from another.
This will be happening from November so got a little time to sort things out.

If she uses her car, will just adding business use to the insurance be enough?

I know about parent permission forms, first aid, safeguarding training etc...

What else am I missing? If anything...

    Thanks in advance

    Sounds good to me Sarah!

My Mum (assistant) has just changed her insurance to business so that she can take children with her to one school while I go to another so that we keep within ratios.

You've already mentioned first aid, safeguarding and parental permission. Just make sure that the total amount of time that she is in sole charge of any child is not longer than 2 hours per day, so take into account travelling time etc..

Get a copy of the insurance certificate too so that you are covered and can show the lovely Ofsted

    Thank you

It will be a 15 minute round trip for my assistant on the days she's with me and then approx 10-15 mins before I return from my school run so will be well within time limits!

Will make sure I take a copy of insurance to add to my folder and I've also made sure I've got two extra car seats for her to keep in her boot

I've got everything else in place...just kind of wanted to check on the insurance really and someone to tell me if I had missed anything obvious lol!

does the insurance have to be particular to childminders though so that if accident with a child in car you are specifically covered for the child aswell?
I've just got normal business cover but I was very specific that they checked it included childminding use and wrote it on the policy

I think its classed at class 1 business use...
When we phoned up about adding it to the insurance I asked a terrible amount of questions plus they took details of my business etc...

If I was ever unsure tho, I have a second car which is insured for business use and could add her onto that policy
