Hi Gem :),
Not really the weather for it, ( though we have been known to put a rug down and have one inside)but a picnic is a good opportunity to make sandwiches and add healthy bits which children may not actually ask for in real life, so to speak. Also shopping for this can be fun.
Also, adding to a pizza base (ciabatta bread rolls are good for this) from a selection of healthy toppings is fun. I think that even if the resistant ones don't add the healthier toppings it just gives them more exposure and they experience the other children adding veg etc and having fun doing it as well as eating their own creation which can just contribute to a long term interest in food and what we eat, in general.
Good luck :)
How about getting some paper plates, and cutting out some pictures of healthy foods from magazines. The children could then make up their own plate of food by glueing the pictures on their plate. You could talk about each child's choices and why they are healthy and good for you.
brill thank you for the ideas xx
Fruit and Veg printing?? Make some really great pics, Don't cut shapes into them, just cut it in half. Mushrooms, Peppers, Broccolli, Onion???, Apple, Orange
Taste testing - Older ones like it
Making Fruit kebabs - Did this at nursery and the kids loved it. Maybe use straws and make holes in the fruit ready? We used kebab sticks with the sharpe point taken off.
Good luck

Fantastic thank you so much really appreciate :)
We have around the world weeks where the menu offers healthy meals from around the world.
Monday - Mexico: Chicken or Beef Fahitas with lots of salad
Tuesday - Italy: Home Made Spaghetti Bologneise
Wednesday - India: Chicken or Vegetable Korma and Pilau Rice
Thursday - China: Homemade Sweet and Sour Chicken and Egg Noodles
Friday - Germany: Homemade Pork and Apple Meatballs and Spaghetti
The children also have world place mats to learn about where the food comes from.
I try also to put the food on terrines so children can serve themselves at the table.
Fab idea thank you very much!!
We made place mats with the childrens names on. They cut and stuck pics of their favourite fruit and veg and we laminated them. They now use them as place mats.
you could do a apple tasting there are lots of them at the mo,
compare them : the sweetest, crunchies, juiciest ah ah ah ah sorry i making up my own words now!:jump for joy:
Last year we did the paper plate thing with cut out pictures. I also drew an outline of a lunchbox and the children was drawing their packed lunch inside. Oh, and we made a booklet of children's pictures and comments and kept in the book box.
We also made healthy snacks together, and baked healthy bread and vegetable soup. There are lots of online games to play too if you google healthy eating online games.
xx
I am spoilt for choice now !! Thanks
