do you send your own kids to nursery..
for the free funded sessions from when they are 3?
or do you keep them with you as you have other kids around anyway and do fun things.
I am being asked if dd will go to nursery and I just dont know.
thinking now of signing her up to one just in case to keep my options open...
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
I suppose it depends how easy it is for you to take them there. I'm only just about to become registered and was working 3 days a week until last week, so my eldest started her funded sessions in Jan. She's at the preschool unit for the school she'll be going to which just happens to be right next door to our house (we bought the ex janitors house) and she really enjoys it. Personally I think it's good for her to have some time doing her own thing and it means she'll be settled with friends before she starts school properly.
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
My 2 children go to nursery but sometimes I wish they didnt, I know I do alot of the things they do at nursery but the one and only reason I send them is to get them used to being away from me and mixing with alot of children that they will go to school with. I may be wrong but children behave differently when they are away from their own parents, I think we see that in the children that we mind ourselves but nursery gives them a bit of independance from us. I know it has benefited my children in that respect and will help them when they have to go to school the nursery my children go to is next to the school they will attend so they take them over and get them used to the school and teachers. I suppose it depends on your own children and situation, my children were very clingy. Hope that helps
Julie
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
My dd is due to start in August and she really needs to go she is so clingy to me. I think it is good for them it makes it so much easier when they go to school my oldest dd went to nursery at 3 and loved it so havent even had to think twice about sending dd2
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
God yeah  Love her with all my heart but I relish her pre school time, especially when I can tie it in with babies naps ;)
Seriously though, I think kids need the extra socialising and I wanted her to make her own friends rather than be stuck with those I foist upon her through work. She starts school in Sept and lots of her nursery friends will be at the same school so I am hoping that will help her settle in a bit
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
mine both went to funded preschool but it fitted in with the minded children too as they were also preschool or nursery.
I'm glad I sent them as it gave them both time away from me to gain confidence, make new friends and prepared them both for school, plus my Son gained sp and physio quicker through preschool than me trying desperatly to get him refered.
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
hmmm...
she used to be clingy but since I started cm'ing it has changed a lot.
if we go to toddlers she is off and away ...doesnt need me at all.
sits down at snack table herself with some kids and waits for someone to hand her a snack..LOL
there is one mindee who goes to nursery and I could send her to the same one next year as I already do the nursery run..but it isnt the nursery I would maybe want her to go to...I think there is a better one just down the road from me...so need to see how that will fit it as I cannot afford to loose the mindee as I have the other sibling too..
can you go and visit a nursery before you sign them up then I guess?>stupid question probably
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
I have two children at school and my 18mth old DD. I am just starting to childmind. DD will go to nursery when she is three as I want her to be used to seperating from me. The nursery my other two went to was private with high staff ratios and set on a farm. Due to this the funding only covers half of the cost. I don't think DD will go the full five sessions per week. I'll probably send her 3 or 4.
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
My ds is three in September (he wont be starting till Spetember the next year 2011) though as has to be 3 before end of August (hoping for an intake in the April 2011) Anyway I have decided to send him to nursery. My eldest now 6 went to nursery full time and loved it and gained alot from going..prepared him for school (being the youngest in the year -31st August) some people say that being the youngest they can be behind others in their class as some could be a good year older than them, but I think nursery helped him alot and he is now one of the top in his class.
With my youngest we have decided to send him as again it will prepare him for school (especially as it is connected to the school he older ones, be used to the settings etc) and I think it will be good for him as he has been with me everyday since birth so will need that independance etc (we go to groups but he knows Im there) I think it will be good for him.
Everyone to their own though but yes ds will be going..
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
you can go and visit the nursery, when is she 3 our area are only having one sign on a year now even though there are different start dates so if she is 3 before Feb next year I think you need to start looking pretty quick
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
she will be 3 on the 15th jan next year
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
I would give your nursery a call to check enrollment dates then and have a wee nosy around as well

same birthday as my dd although mine will be 16 then  my dd went 2 nursery as I had my son just b4 her 4th b/day she loved it, my ds went 2 nursery 4 about 7 wks he hated it so I pulled him out, he started school no prob and is a very confident popular boy, so I guess it just depends on the child but if I had another then I would prob try them at nursery when they got to 3 and see how they got on
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
Round here you have to get your name on the list pretty quick and get a deposit in, nurseries are very popular.
My kids, who are teens now, went to playgroup -as it was then  . Got them used to socialising without me, I had been minding since first was 6 months so used to lots of mindees about. Playgroup was different - more similar in age with different situations to deal with. A chance to get away from babies and play with peers. It was good for them, DS wanted to go every day, all day! I had to say I needed to see him sometimes too
I chose the place I wanted them to go to and mindees had to fit into that. My kids came first. When they started school, I only did pick ups from that school too.
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
Assume you are in England, which means your LO will be entited to free preschool the term after she turns 3, which I make it after Easter 2011.
I am actually going to one step worse  .
I am sending my DD to a neighbourhood childminder after Easter this year, for 1 school hours day per week for two terms. (She is 3 in Nov). Then in Jan 2011 she can start at the local preschool for 3 sessions (I don't want her to go anymore) and then in Sept 2011 she will move into the nursery class and can then go for 5 sessions a week.
Sept 2012 is full time school :crying:
The reason for this is I want to wean her off me. DS2 screamed for 7 weeks when he started preschool at similar age and I don't want to put either of us through that again.
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
scotland actually...
I was considering another cm for a while as well...
or maybe classes she can go to where I just drop her off
will do a nosy round the nursery anyways to see what they say and when I have to let them no.
no harm done to get her signed up or put on a list I guess..they shouldnt need deposits for funded sessions though should they?
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
Think it does them the world of good personally
Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..

Re: do you send your own kids to nursery..
My DS's name has been down since he was 6 months old and yes he will be going - think it does them good to be away from mummy for a while!

This is illegal or at least will be by Sept 2010 and therefore because of the new way the gov is calculating funding for free places a great many nurseries are opting out. I was under the impression that it was illegal already by someone at a LA meeting I was at this week suggested it would be illegal from Sept - no more top up fees can be charged!!!!
