Gutted!! Re health disclosure form

I've been doing a very stressful job for last 15 years and finally decided to do something about it...leave the salary...the pension etc behind and do what I believe I would love. I am a Mum ...mine are all old enough not to be in the equation for numbers. I love children and crafting, would love to be my own boss and work from home. Have given it serious thought n have gone to our regular sure start meetings n crèches, got to know local childminders. I'm currently off with stress and anxiety. Just got my health declaration form back fm GP and it says about my stressful job and the fact that Ive had stress and anxiety several times and been seen by various drs. She believes it to be work related. States over 4 months that she has been seeing me I'm well. motivated and compliant to treatment and that I've got good insight and self awareness.

Really really worried now in case ofsted knock me back

She does state " related to the stressful job she has been in for 15 years. She has however seen various GPs over the past 15 years for episodes of stress and anxiety especially between 1999 and 2001....currently she is undergoing counselling which is helping her reevaluate her situation. I understand that this is showing the cause of her illness to be work but have no report from the counsellor"

How do u think ofsted will take it?

Don't worry. My friend suffers from depression and has had an eating disorder. This came out on her checks and Ofsted sent her to see an independent specialist. It came back that she was fit to be a childminder even though she was on antidepressants at the time. She's fine now and off the medication, like you she said her old job had a big impact on her mood.

There are many childminders on here that have suffered stress, anxiety and depression for various reasons - I am sure that they will be along shortly to reassure you. OFSTED may ask you to see one of their doctors basically just so they can say they did all they they could in the event something happened (unlikely I know) I was referred for my asthma although their doctors just reviewed my history and I never had to see a doctor. It tends to be a formality.

I've had issues with depression and at the time started registering to childminder I was signed off work. But like you, my work was a major part of the problem. I was completely honest on my health form and Ofsted decided that I had to see their medical advisor. I was very worried. Becoming a childminder was part of solution to my problems, being refused would have set me back again. However it all went well, I was honest about the problems, what treatment I'd had and here I was now.
Ofsted have a duty to make sure that we are fit enough to care for the children, they have to be cautious - but in my experience they were fair.

Thank you soooooo much for your replies...can't tell you how much it means. I accept I will probably have to see someone so they can I establish I'm not a real fruit loop but foes this process hold things up much and was it an extra charge? I've spoken with the dr she is going to look to see if she can reword it better! It may not be for 2 weeks though as she is going on hols

mine had something pretty similar, i was being bullied at work. As long as the doctor puts that it was due to that high pressure job im sure Ofsted will be realistic.

You'll almost certainly be referred to see another doctor. No extra charge for this (or wasn't when I registered last year). As it's related to your current job, it will probably be ok. Ofsted have to check your symptoms are mild/well-managed. Can you imagine the outcry if they didn't?!

Try not to worry. Ofsted really want to register you if they can verify you're safe to work with children. Having your own children helps show this too!

I don't know how it works now during the registration process. But when I did mine I put a covering letter in as sent it off myself and didn't get asked about any further information

if it helps when I applied to register I was on antidepressants due to my job. However, I wrote an additional letter to ofsted with the GP letter stating that all the stress was job related. I registered with no problems. :)

Danemi you are registered on the forum as a parent member - that means you are still a red (new) member despite the amount of posts you have made.

You need to change your settings to show you are a childminder and the system should update and you'll be able to use the search facility.

A lot of cms work while taking anti depressants. You will be referred to Ofsted's doctors who will decide if you are fit to work with children - be honest and open and prepared for a bit of a delay to your registration.

Got the rewrite from the dr....which shows last time I had this was 12-14 years ago and then one and was to Do with work...so I'm hoping this sounds better. I've got a couple of references to send off too!
