Term time only rates

After a bit of advice please. I've never considered doing TTO contracts before but one of my current mindee's patents are both teachers so have asked and although I initially said no I'm now thinking it would be more beneficial for my own children to have more quality time with me when they're off school so just wondering if you have a higher rate for TTO and if do how much more. And do you put any extra in the contract etc or any way of covering yourself in case they don't give relevant notice over the school summer holidays etc. thanks x

I just change my hourly rate to 75p per hour more, which over a 9 hour day equals a extra £6.75 per day. However my parents don't have to pay me anything in the holidays this way. For example my family pays me a £108 per week on this TTO rate, whereas on my normal rate they would pay me £87.75 every week, even in holidays. By the end of the year the difference to me is the family on term time only pay me £108 less a year, and all of holidays I don't have their child. They feel they are getting a good deal, and i am happy not to be paid money when their off, as i simply just save money each week for the holiday weeks :thumbsup:

I don't personally charge more for tto and only charge a retainer over the summer, but that is because term time only suits me fine and I don't need to earn a huge amount. I do know people that charge time and half for tto and retainers of half pay through holidays. I think it is whatever works for you.:)

I'm just learning the childminding ropes, so am hoping to attract term time only contracts because I have a 12, 9 and 6 yr old of my own and don't want to stretch myself too thin. I take my 5 weeks unpaid holiday in school holidays, so I wouldn't have earned anything those weeks anyway. I'm just charging my normal hourly rate and no retainer fee, but if they want to even out the payments I will only divide it into equal payments from September-July, so I should already have everything I'm owed if they give notice over the summer.

For my term time only family I charge £1.50 extra per hour with no retainer in the holidays x

I do exactly the same for under 5s, for over 5s I don't charge a retainer.

I have a term time only..I charge a higher hourly rate...

I do not charge for holidays..it works well for me mean I can take on extra children my sons age which works really well

I've got a tto. I wanted to charge one day a week retainer over the hols but they said they didn't want to pay an extra 13 days. I said I'm sure there will be a time in the holidays wen she wants to go to the hairdresser or out wiv her mum and won't want to take baby,but she said it won't happen so I said fine. Can't wait for her to call me in the holidays to ask if I can have him,might take him,might not. See how the mood takes me. I've actually posted a similar thread just before about this situation,wud love you're thoughts......

However i took on the TTO when I first started and I needed the business

I think if I did that now , I would raise my hourly rate to make up for not being paid in the holidays , probably an extra £1 per hour

I like being less busy in the holidays as i have a 6 year old , but I have just agreed to take on a 4yr old , holidays only, so it is possible to fill the gap :-)

I charge my normal hourly rate with no charge/retainer in the school holidays because it is so easy to fill the time (if you want it) with school holiday mindees. In my contracts, I stipulate that notice can only be be given during "working time" to ensure that I don't get notice served during the school holiday periods.

I don't charge a retainer or anything during school holidays. Part of me wishes I did though as financially beneficiL but then I have to be available to work if I charged. It suits me personally to be quieter during holidays as it gives me one day off a week , some times 2 (woohoo!) and get more family time ( well... cleaning/ paperwork/ sorting etc etc)
