I popped into my bank today - wanted to check I had the best deal for my contents insurance as my premium is up soon.
I was sooo shocked! :eek: I was expecting a higher price as being a cm but they refused to insure us :eek: Not impressed with Halifax!
So who do you insure with? Do any of you use the one in Who Minds?
there seem to be very few who will insure childminders and those that do the premium is really high. The Homeminder insurance was really expensive for us as we live in London.
The cheapest for me so far has been Churchill but even that went up 50% this year.

I have the homeminder policy because I like the cover it provides. I have had to claim twice and have been really impressed. I did check out MM but for me their quote was loads more.
We find Dirct line & Nationwide to be the cheapest & find that switching between the 2 each year to bethe best option!
Mine is through MM, My bank (barclays) wouldn't insure me plus a few others!
*mrsmaggy* That's odd, my insurer is Barclays, and it only cost me an extra £16 per annum to make the amendment!
They are both underwritten by Churchill. We bank with Nationwide and they wouldn't insure us. But we have been with Churchill for years with no prob lemQuote:

I am with MM. They came up about £70 cheaper than Churchill who I used last year.
I'm with Homeminder, have been for years as most other companies would not cover for accidental damage for Childminders. As I took out my Childminding insurance with MM last April (after being with NCMA for 19 years) I checked what they would be for house/contents insurance when it was due in December. I have several bicycles which Homeminder have covered without a value limit. MM wouldn't cover them for more than £500, (they suggested I insure them separately with a specialist insurer, which would be way too expensive). So I dismissed them outright.
Homeminder changed their underwriter last year and I had heard that premiums had gone up a lot. However when I checked with them it had actually gone down slightly. It was cheaper than the MM insurance, and MM wouldn't cover the bicycles. However I did have to pay a small additional for the bicycle cover I needed this time, but at least they were prepared to offer the cover. So I am sticking with Homeminder for the foreseeable future.

I have my buildings and contents insurance through Lloyds TSB I can't remember the annual price but I know I pay £22.00 per month :thumbsup: I have just renewed so I know they do do it for childminders iyswim?

I'm with direct line, have been a few years, at renewel it always jumps up massively, but I just ring them, say I'm not paying that much, and can they better the deal, and they do. They've told me to just keep doing that - think it's cos the first year you get discounts.
It's annoying, cos in my view I think our houses are safer - we are home more, how can they justify charging more or refusing to insure us? :angry:
I was with Halifax, and when I started to childmind I switched to MM. They have been fantastic, and were half the price Halifax wanted for buildings & contents.
I have found that a lot of insurers will insure childminders, but most will not provide accidental damage cover. It's important to ask whether this will be included.Quote:
