I realise I am very late to this but I just wanted to say what a fantastic idea! My Hubby will be away in Afghanistan for 3 months this year and over Christmas. This would be a fantastic idea for while he's away. It would be great for learning about Ramadan, Eid, ways of life, food etc.

I'll have a trial run when he goes to the Czech Republic soon!

I think that is fantastic - how clever of you to come up with that idea.

On my wall i have a world map too. I printed some pictures of different people and then some speech marks. I printed on them Hello or Welcome in different languages, and wrote what country they are from. Also on a couple what festival they celeberate as if they are talking. Then i have some ribbon pointing to that particular country. Ofsted loved this on my pre-reg visit and commented how impressed she was with it so im absolutely sure ofsted will love your idea too. Well done for turning a hard situation into a positive one.

I did this with my children when my Dad went to Aus via several different
places. We made an aeroplane ane used it to mark the route.

We also made a scrap book for both my children that had a copy of the map in the front and then we suck in the post cards as they arrived and added extra info about the places. The children loved it and my Dad was so chuffed that they had taken so much interest in his travels.

I have 4 clocks in my kitchen with different times around the world on them and use them to show the time where different people related to the children or me are and they do like doing it one clock is set on local time and the other 3 are on differnet times. Two of my mindees were born in Belgium so I had one clock 1 hour ahead with a map of Belguim and a flag and the word beneath it. I have one mindee from China and have another clock set at the time in China. When my DH (who the children called daddy Vic) goes away with work or we or one of the children goes on holiday I set the 4th clock to the time there with the flag and map. They love it I have to admit I have nothing under them now since they all left I've lost heart and took them all off the wall just so I could see the paint plus I got fed up putting them back up every time someone knocked them off the wall. Sometimes I resent having all my walls littered with stuff for childminding as it is my home after all.
    Celest
