    Default Safeguarding Advice Needed

    Hello!

I read this on a random ofsted report:

However, the childminder is unsure whether or not to notify parents or what to say to children if concerns are serious and she needs to make a referral, which risks incorrect procedures being followed.

And it made me realise that I am not actually sure either!
I was hoping someone could explain the correct procedure, please

Don't make any promises of confidentiality to children who are disclosing information...

Normally you would inform parents - but not if it might put the child at risk.

I think I should do one of those online Safeguarding courses.

NSPCC EduCare basic awareness programmes are designed to give an understanding of child protection issues.

There are 2 courses you might find useful –

Child Protection Awareness (in English or Welsh) - £27.50 plus VAT

Child Protection – Staying Aware (update course) - £9.50 plus VAT

Both courses are distance learning – you sign up and you are sent the information by post. You read and learn, answer questions and send them back for marking.

A certificate follows if you have passed.

There are lots of others as well - I think Pauline has a link to a Virtual College course and a discount code in members only.

However the info I have given you should really be in your safeguarding procedure somewhere so double check you haven't already got it.

I have just completed the NSPCC course on-line today. It was realli informative.
Our Early Years Team was able to offer us the Child Protection Awareness Course for a reduced price of £7.50, so it be worth giving your Early Years Team a call tomorrow
