Wheelchair users are only about 1/50th of the disabled world.

Disability covers everything from chidlren with allergies to children with learning delays... and lots in between.

The Disability Discrimination Act is law and we must follow its requirements.

One of the main ones is that we must be prepared to make 'reasonable adjustments' to care for disabled children.

This does not mean putting in expensive lifting systems or changing the widths of our internal doors, but it does mean showing we have thought about how we can comply with the Act and how we can accommodate a range of disabilities... or work round the problems.

So if a parent is disabled, would you be prepared to collect her child? If a child has a hearing loss, would you know where to go to borrow a hearing loop? If a child has chronic eczema do you know how to deal with allergens in your house?

Can you tell this is the subject of my latest research?
