Question New childminder please help what paperwork I need

    Hello,
I am newly registered childminder and very confused what paperwork I need to prepare and be ready for next Ofsted visit
I will have a child from 1st of March and I made a folder where to keep signed contract and P&P, accident/incident records(downloaded from the web) medical treatment records(short, long term) , child record form, records of childs individual needs, signed permission forms I also made a Daily diary for him
What are the other essential documents. Is it a must to have fire drill, visitor book, attendance register, account books, learning journal etc. Is it a problem if I download most of the paperwork or I need to buy everything.
Sorry but I really can't find information on Ofsted website.

    Thank you

Yes you need to have an attendance register, risk assessments, learning journal etc. I definitely recommend reading through the statutory framework with a highlighter and pen. Highlight the areas that apply to you and make notes on how you will do this. Then make a 'to do' list. In the framework it does say as CMs we don't need to have our policies all written, but it's advisable to have them all, and updated at least yearly.

    For me personally...

I have one big lever arch folder (my portfolio) which has a copy of my Car Insurance certificate showing my business insurance, my CRB checks (with sensitive info blocked out) my ICO certificate. I have info about my setting such as what I provide, meals, info from 'Change for Life' and the FSA. Then I have all my policies and again other (official supporting) documents related the specific policies.

I then have a smaller 'working folder' in the front I have various blank forms such as accident, physical intervention, medication, record of concern, existing injury etc. So, if I need one I can just grab a blank one and fill it out. I then then fire information, my fire procedure and evacuation plan, then a record of fire drills. (I was advised not just to date it and say you did, but to make notes about how it went, how long it took, did the children understand etc) Then after that I have all my Risk Assessments. I have a full specific RA for each room in my house, one for going out in the car, one for going out walking, and I also have a 'on-going' RA, which I fill out as a risk comes up. For example, my trampoline netting is ripped, so now my trampoline is out of action. My garden gate lock broke, so I had it fixed, but it had been a risk, I dealt with it and noted it.

I have my inspection on Friday, so I will let you know how I get on! lol!
