    Default Holiday entitlement question

Hi, can i ask what you all do with regards to agreeing holiday entitlement? Im happy to take (and not charge for) my own 4 weeks hol per year. The parent is saying she gets 6 weeks 2 days hol per year, not including bank hols. Ive agreed she will pay half price days for her hols but im not sure about allowing her to take 6 weeks at half price, seems alot to me, especially if my 4 weeks hol are at a different time, thats 6 weeks where i'll get less than usual than 4 weeks where i'll get nothing! Is is my first contract, what should i do? Whats the norm?

    Hi ,
I charge in full if I am open and not at all if I am closed: they are paying for a place, not the use of it and this way just seems clearer and fairer to me.
I would always put a cap on the number of reduced rate weeks if I did agree to charging less for unused hours, but would in that case, probably still charge for my holiday time.
Maybe get back to the parent, say you have done some sums, obviously have to make sure you are paid enough for a limited number of spaces to keep your business viable and offer some options, (all of which you are ok with ).

Hope you find a way and don't end up out of pocket and resenting it... good luck

Ok! Thanks for your reply. Ive written out some supplementary conditions/clarifications relating to holidays and were going to read through them together so we both know where we stand!
    Cheers again :-)

i def. wouldn't allow a parent 1/2 fees for hols if I charged nothing for mine and certainly not for 6 weeks. She always has the option to take 4 out of her 6 weeks when you take yours that'd save her some cash
if you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got

I also charge if I am open and no charge when I am closed. I couldnt afford to offer half fees for 4 or 6 weeks.

I charge half fee for my holiday which is five weeks a year and full fee for the parents but if they choose to go when I am away they pay half fee. I would go broke if I allowed parents to pay half fee for all their holidays. Most of mine get 6 weeks which is why I upped mine to five weeks four years ago.

After all they would normally pay full fees 52 weeks a year at a Nursery so my 5 weeks at half fee means they only pay for 49.5 weeks a year with me, bonus!
